ABOUT NEGERI JOHOR

The name Johor comes from the Arabic word ‘Jauhar’ which means ‘Precious Gem’. Johor is also known as Hujung Tanah (edge of a land) or ‘Gangganu’ by the Siamese referring to ‘Gemstone’. Johor is a state of Malaysia in the south of the Malay Peninsula. As of 2020, the state’s populationis 4.01 million, making it the second most populous state in Malaysia.

The state of Johor, located in the south of Peninsular Malaysia is the main gateway to Malaysia via Singapore, thus stealing the attention of tourists from within and outside country. This great state is not only thriving in terms of development and modernisation, but it is also graced with beautiful islands and beaches as well as diversed landscapes.

The history of modern Johor began under the rule of Sultan Abu Bakar who introduced the Johor Constitution and subsequently brought about changes mostly in the more administration of the state of Johor.

Johor is also famous for its monuments and distinctive landmarks. People of Johor or better known as Bangsa Johor are rich in customs, culture, heritage as well diversity of food tastes which symbolises the true identity of Johor in addition to fostering unity and respect towards each other.
